The FTC has asked federal courts to freeze the assets of a total of 10 businesses who are using these advertising tactics to market products.
The ads under examination appear to be real-life testimonials from those legitimate news channels and publications, but "...the sites are simply advertisements aimed at deceptively enticing consumers," the FTC has stated. The Web sites in question not only refer to the news channels, but often include a logo as well.
The FTC has received many complaints from people who paid as much as $100 the products sold by the deceptive sites. The FTC will attempt to get the courts make the companies provide refunds to these consumers.
